Isuzu Repair: Starting problems, isuzu pickup, pickup 4x4

Question
Jon,

I have an 1989 isuzu pickup 4x4 normal cab.  It has the 2.6 FI.  It cranks fine but will not start immediatly.  I have to crank it 5-10 times before it will start.  This problem accurs even after the engine has run and braught to to temp and shut down for more than 20 minutes.  It doesn't even sound like it wants to turn over, as if it's not getting fuel.  Once started it runs fine with the exception of a fast idle.  The idle will come down if I tap on the excellerator.
I just baught the vehicle with 110000 miles on it.  I haven't done anything to it yet regarding maintenance.  I want to get some advise before I start tinkering with it.  Thanks

Answer
Next time it acts up, insted of cranking it, just turn the key on and off about 10 times waiting about 3 second each time you turn the key on. If the engine starts, the fuel system is not holding pressure from a leaking injector.
If it still takes 5-10 cranks, check to see if it is getting spark.
