Isuzu Repair: Rear Brakes on a 1996 Isuzu Rodeo (V6), isuzu rodeo, rear brakes

Question
Hello

About 6 weeks ago the rear break rotors were replace on my Rodeo by the dealer.  I was having a lot of break noise and the dealer said the that the all the rotors needed to be re-surfaced.  They were able to cut the front rotors but the back rotors need to be replaced.  The dealer said that the brake pads were fine.

I have always experienced squeal noise from the brakes when I first start out on a drive but since the back rotors were replaxed, the noise is much worse.  The noise seems to go away once I have used the bakes a few times but can return if I don't touch the brake peddle for a while.

Is there anything I can do to eliminate the noise for good.  Should I try a different type of brake pad.  The current pads are after market and were purchased at a parts store, not from the dealer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Answer
Hello Chuck. The reason you hear this noise when the brakes are cold is that they have semi-metalic pads. I do not know if organic pads are offered for your car. You will have to ask a parts guy about that. You can put an anti squeek membrane on the backs of your pads, and that should help. In extreem cases, I have beveled the outer edges of the pads at a 45degree angle, and cut a groove down the center of the pads from top to bottom, about a quarter inch deep. Don't ask me why this helps, but it does. Good luck! Phil
