Jaguar Repair: 1984 xj6 VandenPlas parking brakes, parking brakes, screw

Question
Howard,

I'm putting new pads in my parking brakes, they weren't really needed but I was able to get them...  I'm wondering if I need to ratchet the parking brakes back a bit for the new pads - is that possible ?  Also, is it worth lubing anything on them ?

Thanks Howard,

Steve.

Answer
Hi Steve,

There is no ratchet device on the adjustment. It is just a large screw that goes between the two arms. Depending on the thickness of the old pads you just need to back off the adjusting screw. If the pads are worn and some has adjusted it and the cable, you may also need to readjust the cable itself too.
