Jaguar Repair: 1989 XJS V12 low injector voltage, air flow meter, inertia switch

Question
I just bought a 1989 XJS V12 convertible automatic that was sitting for about 10 years. It would start and run rough (not drivable…shift cable & brakes need work) It has 101,000 miles. I would start it daily and let it run, it shut of after a couple minutes, and then it would start again and do the same. The last time it ran for about 10 min then it shut off, never to start or sputter again.

I siphoned the old gas out and added 8 gal fresh premiums…Nothing. Then there was no fuel pressure when I loosened the fuel rail feed line, I replaced the fuel pump, filter, pump relay, main relay (the two in the trunk). Now there is fuel pressure…still wont start. It starts with starting fluid. (Inertia switch looks ok, not popped out).

I don’t feel the injectors clicking. When cranked, the voltage cycles from zero to .08 to .14 to .08 to zero volts. Any thoughts on what could cause this low voltage? Amazingly all the other electronics work except the windshield wipers.

Answer
The 1987s and older cars have a cold start relay and injector. Please checks them if your car have them. Try this, turn you key on and off about five time without engaging the starter. Then try starting the car. If it starts, check you cold start relay and injector. If it dose not start, try this, place a screwdriver in the valve of air flow meter, this will let air into the throttler body. Now see if the car starts, it may start an stop. If it dose, remove the screwdriver and replace everything and try to start the car again. Your air flow meter, cold start relay or cold start injector may be at fault. Sam
