Jaguar Repair: Replacing fuel tanks in xj6series3, australia brisbane, fuel tanks

I live in Australia Brisbane where parts arevhard to come by especially fuel tanks, new they cost $600 each!
My question is , will series 2 fuel tanks fit a series 3?

Hi Kathleen,

I never tried to make that switch but the bodies are designed about the same so there is a good chance they will. So that you don't have to go to the trouble of removing both to confirm it I would remove the filler neck and cap off of each to see that each has the same size tube. This is important as the filler neck fits tight into the tank and a large "O" ring seals the neck to the tank and this is important. If that looks to be the same, look in the trunk to see that the fuel supply hose looks the same and especially the exact location of the bolt in the side of the trunk that secures the tank. If all that looks the same, my guess is that it will fit. Also look at the large plastic disk that covers the drain plug. If you have never removed a ser III tank be careful not to loose the stepped wedges that are used on the mounting of the tank to adjust the alignment.

Sorry, that is the best I can tell you as I have never tried to switch those tanks.
