Jaguar Repair: 1984 XJ6 two transmission questions, transmission questions, foot brake

Question
Howard,
I topped off the transmission fluid according to manual procedure last night, but it seems perhaps I added a bit too much. I say so only because when running in park, I kept adding to reach full range on a warm transmission, then it suddenly appeared to be showing above the full mark. I drove the car about 50 trouble-free miles tonight, but is there any harm to be done if there is a bit too much fluid? On more modern cars, I have quickly drained a bit back out to get the level down, but wasn't sure if there is any harm to be done here. Secondly, I rebuilt the parking brake with new shoes as I replaced the rear calipers, but I do not yet use it as the floor pans do need repairing and I do not want to stress them with the pull of the cable stops. On a very slight incline, when placing the car in park, I have twice had it roll nearly 1-2 feet once the foot brake is released, before stopping which I imagine is terrible for the locking paw inside the transmission. Is such movement normal, before lock, or should I be concerned about this as well?
Thanks,
Michael

Answer
Hi Michael,

I would drain a little out if it is over full when checking it in park on level ground warm. Just a little over is not a problem.

I have not seen a ser III car (BW 66 gearbox)roll very far before the park paw locks in place. Maybe it just missed engaging so I would not let it roll fast (ease the car to the park paw lock with the foot brake)if it does it all the time as it can do damage.
