Jaguar Repair: 1982 Jaguar xj6, jaguar xj6, auto parts stores

Question
Hello Howard, I have a 1982 Jaguar xj6 that I recently purchased, the car will not start, it will crank over, but there is no spark.
Do you have any suggestion on what this may be? I've replaced the spark plugs and the ignition coil.
Thanks for your time!

Answer
Hi Marvin,

You need to look toward the ignition unit mounted on the front of the intake manifold and check the ignition pick up in the distributor.

Just check the pick-up with an ohm meter for a connection between the two terminals. Most that are bad just have a broken lead and will show no connection between the two terminals. Check the air gap.

Check for power at the coil with the key on. Then if all that is ok open the black box (ignition unit mounted on the front of the intake manifold) Inside you will find a GM ignition unit which you can usually match up at most auto parts stores.
