Question
I buy new fuel pump relays and it keeps blowing them. if i take the cap off the relays and hold the relay on it will run just fine. any ideas on what to try. Also when I go threw the car wash my heater ducts fill up with water???

Answer
Hi Melanie,

If you are going through a lot of relays I would remove the cover to examine the relay to see what is going wrong with it. If the coil is burning up I would test your charging rate to see that it is not over 14.5 volts at a fast idle. If the points are burning you should check the fuel pump as it may be going bad and drawing too much current or the power side or the ground side could have a poor connection causing the points to vibrate which will burn them. Another possible cure if the points are burning, put a condenser on the points, on the pump wire and ground the condenser body. a condenser from a pointed ignition system would be a good one to try.
