Hi i have a 1986 xjs and the cluster lights wont turn on when the headlight switch is turned on. could there be a problem with that, because this is my second cluster that I have bought.

Hi TJ,

First turn on the lights and look at the switch illumination lights, Cigar liter light and gear selector lights. If they are not on, check the #7 fuse in the main fuse panel. (not by looks but with a test light)

If the cigar lighter and the gear selector lights are on but nothing else, test the red with white wires from the lighting rheostat.

If all them work but the instrument lights don't, check the red with white tracer wire to the instrument cluster for power and check the black wire for a good ground.

If you have power at the red with white tracer wire at the cluster and the black wire at the cluster is a good ground then something is wrong with the cluster itself.
