Jaguar Repair: 1984 XJ6 fuel tanks, lead pipes, fuel tanks

Question
Howard,
Thanks for your previous answer. I have now removed both fuel tanks and will be carrying them in to the shop tomorrow. as I imagine you already know, removal is simple, except for the two lower bolts in the muffler tunnel, which are a waking nightmare to access. At this point, I plan to spend the next few evenings cleaning my bolts and fuel level sending units, and am in no real hurry to go through this again. Do you have any expert tips or tricks to ease re-installation, specifically for the two lower bolts? Should, or can the mufflers be detached from the lead pipes, and lowered for better access?
Thanks!

Answer
Hi Michael,

It's been a while since to removed and replaced a tank and the only thing I remember being troublesome was the adjustment with the stepped shims to align the tank correctly so the "O" ring of the filler neck didn't leak. I do think I had the rear mufflers off.
