Jaguar Repair: XK-150 power steering possible?, power steering racks, power steering rack

Question
Hello Howard, thank you for your help. I have been eyeing a BRG 150 fhc for sale. Have only driven 2 of those, a long time ago, but my memory is they are hard to steer at low speed or park. Possible to retro-fit power steering, or is there a kit for this?  Many thanks for your insights.

Answer
Hi John,

I don't know of any but there are many power steering racks that could be installed by a shop that can do fabrication. You need to measure the distance from the inner lower "A" frame pivot point to the other side and find a power rack that is close to that measurement from tie rod ball to the other side. Then look to see if there is room to install it. The reason you need that distance is to keep "Bump Steer" to a minimum. Measure the existing rack from tie rod ball to tie rod ball and compare that to an XJ-6 power steering rack. If it is close you could have a shop fabricate the mounting and connections and the mounting of the power steering pump. The 80s XJ-6 may be a close fit and easier to locate a rack and pump.
