Jaguar Repair: AEU for XJ6C, stromberg carburetors, enrichment unit

Question
Dear Sir,
I have replaced old, sick automatic enrichment unit(AEU) with brand new manual one on my XJ6C 76th Daimler. But it does not working corectly at all. There is huge problem to start engine in the morning. Just with help of quick starting gas everything is going on more or less perfectly. Actually I am working with cars for many years, especially with Jags for last ten years, but I really do not understand how to cheat that bl... manual choke:)) From one hand there is no need absolutely to connect this manual choke with exhaust system like in AEU. From another hand, as I realise, this choke needs vakuum to work. But, when I closed intake pipe, manual choke started to give much more fuel then necesary.
May You give me some suggestions. Thanks advance.

Answer
Hi Gundars,
I have no experience with any of the Daimlers but most of their equipment is like the early Jag parts so I may be able to help a little if I can see what you have on the car now. I am familiar with most of the early Jag enriching devices on the SU carburetors and on the Stromberg carburetors.

If it has Strombergs, I have installed many manual choke systems to replace the auto choke systems, but I never seen one that had any connection with the exhaust. The only system we had here in the US that had anything to do with the exhaust was a system in the intake manifold that routed all of the Air/fuel over the head to the exhaust manifold to get heated then routed it back over the head to get into the intake. Then when you opened the throttle fully the Air/fuel went directly into the combustion chamber bypassing the "over the head system".

If you can take a picture of what you have on the carburetors now and attach it to this program, I may be able to help.
