Answer
Hi Mark,
I have worked in several Jaguar dealerships since 1960 and have had many Jag heads surfaced but never found a limit quoted anywhere. I know some were surfaced several times over the years.

The only thing I know of that you need to watch for is the small pins that stick out of the cam sprocket hubs need to not foul on the alloy bracket in front of them as the head gets lower. The chain adjustments seemed to be enough to make up for the lowered head. If it is close to the limit just install a new chain which will take up a lot of slack.

The compression ratio will be higher so you need to run a high grade of gas and maybe back the timing off a little.
