Jaguar Repair: 1985 xjs heater core, metal pipes, sorry jerry

Question
how do i remove the heater core from 1985 xjs.

Answer
Sorry Jerry, I have never put one in an "S" but have in the 85 XJ-6 and I am guessing it may be the same. The factory says to remove the whole heater/AC unit to get to it. But first look on the left side at the pipe connections to see if that is the only reason you can't remove the core from the left side. If it is like the "6" we used a cut saw to cut the pipes off and removed the core from the left side. This allows the core to be removed. Once the old core is removed we cut the pipes off of the new core so as to be able to slip a short piece of heater hose on the pipes with clamps and thus none of the box needed to be removed.
You will need to look at the metal pipes of the core to see if that is the case for the "S" as it is for the "6".
