1983 jaguar xj6,I changed the fuel pump and the fuel filter.the filter was clogged it had orange rustey junk in it.after i changed it ,it still is running but when you step on the gas it sputters .do you think the fuel pressure regulator is bad to.im going to drain the fuel tank to get anything else that mite be in there out.and before and after i put the fuel pump in it is loud are jaguars normaley loud like that.the car is a nice car and i just want it to run good.just idleing it runs good.what do you thinks is going on?

Hi Edward,
Your symptom narrows the problem to about a thousand things. You do need to drain the tanks and flush them. It is also possible that some of the finer rust made it through the filter and into the injectors.

First thing to do is get a pressure gauge and put a "T" fitting in the fuel line close to the fuel rail so you can measure fuel pressure. (32 PSI running and 42 with the vacuum hose removed from the regulator.
