QUESTION: i have one fan and it seems like there is supposed to be another because i have another set of wires that i think leads to another fan but im not sure
ANSWER: William, it could be for an additional electric fan as some Series III Jags did have three fans, one on the fan clutch and two electric fans. You should be able to tell by the fan mounts.

AnswerWilliam, the electric fan/s don't come on unless the engine is quite hot. Mine has only come on once in two years. If you live in the deep south and in the summer in heavy traffic and are running the AC, you may see the electric fan/s run often. But normal driving on the highway may not even have the fan/s come on.
However, if you are overheating now on the highway and the fan/s are not coming on, you most likely have a cooling system problem and that must be addressed. The electric fan/s can not correct a overheating problem. The simple test is to drive the car at cruise speed and note the temp. If it overheats start testing the engine first. Get the die (from any auto parts store) that tests for CO in the coolant. If that is ok check the thermostat as they often fail. If that is ok then test the water pump to be sure the impeller is not damaged of loose on it's shaft. And have the radiator tested (any radiator shop can test both the radiator and water pump)Also check the fan clutch.
After the cooling system is corrected you can test the electric fan by just connecting 12v to one lead and a ground to the other and check the temp switch in the radiator that turns on the fan/s.
