Jaguar Repair: 85 xj6 ac factory charge, ford dealership, ac system

Question
I have an 85 xj6 that I bought off my dad. He had taken it up to the local Ford dealership to get the ac checked out. They told him that the compressor was bad. I'm not one hundred percent sure now, but I believe the compressor runs when the defroster is on. First of all, is that right? Because my defroster works fine. Second, I believe it might only need to be recharged. What is the factory charge on an 85 xj6? Thank you so much for your time.

Answer
Hi Cody,
The AC runs all the time that AC is on or the heat is on. Most of the AC system is GM not Ford but any shop can evacuate it and recharge it. The pressure on the high side at 80 deg F. should be 150 to 180 PSI and up when the temp is higher. 110 deg F. should be 250 to 270 PSI
The low side with the evaporator temp at 10 deg should be 14 on up to 30 when the evaporator temp at 32 deg F.
