Jaguar Repair: how to replace evaporator on 74 jag xj6, bolts and nuts, bolt and nut

Question
QUESTION: how to replace evaporator on 74 xj6

ANSWER: Hi Dodson,
Not good news, first get a service manual because you have to remove the dash and console and take the whole AC/ Heater box out to access it.
There is a short cut trick to take the heater core out without removing everything but I don't know of any short cut on the evaporator.

QUESTION: thanks,i have gotten console out dash just trying to figure out how to get ac/heater box down, have service manual but is not that good at details

Answer
It requires EVERYTHING to be removed so even if you did get a manual that didn't go into much detail just remove every nut, bolt and screw in there and it will be out. There is no elaborate detail to removing it, no magic procedure, just a lot of work removing pieces. I only did a few in the dealership and the first was without a manual and the others with a manual and as you found the manual did not tell me exactly every bolt and nut to remove. The only thing I learned was to bag the bolts and nuts and label them as to where they went as taking it out was not the problem but putting it back in was, but it was easier with all the bolts in bags and labeled as to where they came from. When you are finished you can write a book on it.
