Jaguar Repair: 1985 Vanden Plas, urethane spray, vanden plas

Question
How do I remove the console plate where the fuel transfer switch is? I need to
replace the FTS. Also, where can I get replacement wood grain veneer to replace
the cracked one on the console and dash? Thanks for your help, very kind of
you!

Answer
Hi Doug,
You need to remove the radio face plate and the recessed nuts under the heater/AC control knobs to remove that plate with the fuel control switch in it. Be careful not to damage the fiber optics.

I have repaired several face plates and dashes where the urethane cracked and was peeling up but have not tried to repair any if the wood veneer came up. The method that worked for me was to spray it with Urethane spray and place a piece of wax paper over it and then I made wood blocks to just fit the plate front and back and clamped them together until the Urethane dried. This only flattened it. I then wiped it down with a cloth with carb cleaner to get the wax off. On several that were not too bad I just sprayed it and laid it face up to dry and then put a coat of brushed on Urethane. I then just brushed on caned Urethane and laid it face up until dried hard (several days to a week) then block sanded it with wet body sand paper. (1000 grit and progressed to 1200 and 1500 and 2000) then polishing compound in two progressive grits. Some took several coats drying between each coat and sanding to fill in the cracks.
