Jaguar Repair: removing console armrest lid on 87 xj6, haynes repair manual, ash trays

i have removed all screws that i can see and the ashtray assembly and the console box will not budge!all i am trying to do is replace the center console lid!i have a haynes repair manual but it doesnt show how!your help is greatly appreciated!

To remove the armrest lid, all you need to do is remove the two chrome screws in the hinge and the the two little black headed screws holding the side peg for the chrome restrictor for the armrest lid.

Why did you take the ash trays out? Are you trying to remove the console cover too for some reason? If so you need to remove the black headed screws around the inside tray and lift the plastic tray out and there may be two screws at the top of the switch panel, then remove all of the window switch plugs and the upper switches. Then you can lift the cover up and out over the shift tower and remove the two ears of the shifter.
