Jaguar Repair: spark, propane torch, fuel compression

Question
I have an 87 vandon plas. I have replaced the fuel metering valve, coil, injectors, and the ign. module. sometines it starts, sometimes it won't. Battery is good.

Answer
Hi Don,
How did you decide the battery was good? Do this, when it will not start connect up a another battery like you are jump starting a car with a dead battery. If it starts up get a new "Deep Charge" battery like a diesel battery for the car. This was a common problem on the series III cars.

If that don't work try spraying starter fluid in the intake when trying to start to see if it will start or you can use the gas from a propane torch into the intake. (don't lite the torch though)

When an engine does not start, it is missing one of the 3 items it takes to start an engine. compression, fire or fuel. Compression usually don't come and go so it is missing fire or fuel. If you spray starter fluid into the intake and it does not start you know you have lost fire and if it does start then you know it is fuel related. But you need to catch it not starting when you do the tests.
