Jaguar Repair: Rear Defrost/Windshield Washer Fluid - 1985 XJ6VDP, windshield washer fluid, auto glass shops

Question
Hi Howard,

I was hoping you could help me with fixing my rear defrost on my '85 XJ6.  When I push the button for the defrost the dash light turns on but the actual defrost doesn't work.  What could that be from?  Also, my windshield wiper fluid doesn't come out when activating the switch, what would cause that?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Blake

Answer
Hi Blake,
The fact that the light comes on indicates the fuse and the relay are good so you need to take a 12v test light or a volt meter and check for power at the two connections on the rear glass to see if one wire is powered with the switch on and the other is a good ground. If there is power and a ground there, then the heating element on the glass has a break in it. I think some auto glass shops can replace them.

The washer motor is powered by the #11 fuse (35 amp)in the main panel. The washer motor is at the bottom of the washer fluid tank so you need to test it for power when the switch is pushed and check the ground also at the motor if the fuse is good.
