Jaguar Repair: 87jag, diesel battery, wd 40

Question
87xj6(4.2)little bit hard to start after siting for a few hours or over night.

Answer
Hi,
First thing to do is to spray starter fluid or something like WD-40 into the intake when it is hard to start to see if it is a lack of fuel. If it starts easily with a starter fluid then check to see if the cold start valve is spraying fuel in the start position. You need to point it into a small container or rag so as not to take a chance on a fire. You should keep a fire extinguisher handy too.

If starter fluid does not help then connect a good jumper battery to the car battery as though you have a low battery (even if the engine is spinning over fast with the car battery) If this makes the car start then you need to get a new "Deep Charge" battery like a diesel or marine battery for the car. The series III cars needed a diesel battery to start correctly. The battery that is in the car now if this is the case can be used in any other kind of car possibly for years but the Jag had a history of this. I supplied my other cars with batteries from the Jag dealer for many years when the series III was being sold.
