Jaguar Repair: 87 XJ6 Repair Manual\Radio Installation, ski slope, radio installation

Question
How do you remove the Radio on this model? In my search to find a repair manual to help me (after removing the center console - 'ski slope') I noticed that Haynes did not publish a manual that includes the 1987. Is there another manual you would suggest?

Answer
Hi Jeff,
Sorry for the delay I thought I answered this one but it must not have gone through.

All series III Jag XJ-6 are the same so if you get a manual for a ser.III XJ-6 it will cover yours.

As for the radio, all the series III Jaguar radios I have seen had knobs like all older radios and the radio was held in place by a  nut under each knob. You will have to remove the two heater/AC knobs and their recessed nuts and remove the Heat/AC face plate. Be careful of the fiber optics used to light up the heat/AC face plate. Once the face plate is off you should see the radio mounts. I have found a variety of these from just two small plates held in with screws to full width plates to support the radio. A few radios that we had to install at that time had a rear support strap but that was impossible to install without removing the whole console and I never seen a mechanic do that to put in a radio. The radios fit in so tight it was never necessary.

If you have a current late model radio with no knobs you will need to contact someone who sells that brand of radio to see how to remove the face plate.
