Jaguar Repair: Heater Core, copper pipe, heater core

Question
1985 xj6 how do you replace the heater core or remove it thanks. IJJ

Answer
Hi Isaac,
If you did what the factory would have you do you would have to remove the whole Heat/AC box, but there is an easy way to do it. If you noticed the "L" bend in the heater pipe is the problem, so if you look at the new core you will see that all you need to do is cut the copper pipe off with a cut saw and you can remove it from the side without removing any of the dash or heat/AC box. Note how much you need to leave protruding so you can put a short piece of heater hose on and clamps to put the pipe back together. This also makes future repairs easier. I have no idea why BLM didn't do it to start with. But then how many other things on all cars are that way?
