Jaguar Repair: Nashville, Tn. mechanic: TR6, british car repair, british car show

Question
Dear Howard:  I saw your post regarding a good, honest mechanic in the Nashville area.  Could you give me a referral?  I am taking delivery on a 1974 TR6 on 9/30/08.  I know that you are a Jag expert, but perhaps you know someone who can help me with TR6?  Also, I would be interested in taking a couple of classes and/or "assisting" someone if they are the "instructor-type" and would enjoy teaching, advising, a novice.  Not that I would compete with them...just like to do a few basics on my own car, i.e. tune-up, adjusting carbs, etc.  What would be ideal if someone with knowledge and tools would let me bring my TR6 over and let me work on it under their watchful eye.  I would pay them for their time.

Answer
Hi Bob,
I can recommend JD in the Nashville area. You will find him very knowledgeable on TR-6s and most British cars and I can vouch for his honesty too. But, I would not recommend that you ask to borrow his tools. To ask a mechanic to borrow his tools would be the same as asking a happily married man to borrow his wife.

JD has a British car repair shop and does good work but I don't think he fits your "Instructor type" category as he makes his living with his shop.

When you get your car you may want to join the Nashville British car club. They are active year round and they are having their annual British car show in Franklin TN Oct. 3, 4 & 5
You can read about the event at, http://www.nashvillebritishcarclub.org/2008carshow

I will be at the show but without my project car as it is not ready yet (again)
I will be glad to give you advise by E-mail but I don't let anyone work in my shop mainly because of the liability. (and I too, am in love with my tools and cringe at the thought of someone else having their hands on them)
But when you get your TR-6 you are welcome to come over for a chat and bench race. (shoot the bull) (but don't touch my tools).
