Love the car, runs fine, just need the fuel tanks fixed. Any ideas?

Answer
Hi Ray,
The only way you can find a leak is to take the tail light assembly out and look. You may even have to remove the lower fender section and the fuel filler cap. The filler cap is inserted into the upper neck of the tank and is only sealed by a "O" ring. If the tank is not mounted correctly the filler to upper neck will not be aligned and each time you apply the brakes, fuel will exit the "O" ring and migrate down to the lower fender area. The tank is mounted with wedges to adjust and align the filler neck.
Also, when you have the tail light assembly out you can see if you have a leak at the fuel level sending unit. Another possible is the large hose in the trunk that feeds the switching valve and pump.
The whole fuel system is designed to operate off of either tank and return unused fuel to the tank being used. If any item in the system fails electrically, it will default to the left tank. Only a small portion of the fuel pumped forward is used, most is run through an AC cooler and returned to the tank that is selected.
