Is the procedure for a 2001 Grand Cherokee the same as for 90's era models.

I'm a bit unclear as to what "procedure" you are referring to. But with that said, clearing the condensate drain is the same for all makes, models and years. That is, gain access to the drain opening and using a probe, insert it into the opening while the A/C is running with the fan speed set to high and clear any obstruction.
