Jeep Repair: Ignition key tumbler removal, jeep grand cherokee, jeep dealer

Question
I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee i lost my ignition key,I've been trying to figure out how to remove tumbler with no key i was told you have to have the key to remove tumbler is there any truth to this? or is there away to get it out less key not doing to much damage to the whole unit?

Answer
There is no way to remove the lock cylinder from the housing without causing any damage. You would be better off having a new key cut for the vehicle. Any locksmith or Jeep dealer can do this easily. All you need is to provide them with the VIN and show proof of ownership.
