Jeep Repair: 1999 jeep wrangler heater problems, jeep wrangler, head assembly

Question
My heater selector switch, the switch that selects between heat and defrost, smokes when I turn on the fan switch. I disconnected the selector switch, removed the fan fuse and turned the temperature switch to its coolest setting. After doing this I still get hot air coming out at my feet. My question is two fold- 1) What could be making my selector switch smoke? and 2) Why am I still getting hot air at my feet?

Answer
Although I have not come across this type of problem, I'll do my best to help you. In all likelihood I would suspect that the blend air door circuit has burned out in the control head. That would account for the smoke and the inability to change the temperature at the ducts. The only fix would be to replace the control head assembly. You should also replace the blend air door motor on the heater box as well as it also may have either caused or sustained some damage also.
