Question
I have a 1998 Jeep Wrangler Sport with automatic transmission. I want to
remove the center console so I can replace the carpet.  How do I remove the
center console? The gear shift seems to be in the way.

FULL FLOOR CONSOLE
REMOVAL
Move the seats to the full rearward position.
Move the passenger seat in the full recline position.
Grasp shift handle (auto trans only) and firmly pull upward to remove.
Using a small flat blade, pry up shift indicator bezel, disengage bezel lamp connector and remove bezel (auto trans only)
Using a trim stick, pry up shift boot and remove (manual trans only)
Remove the bolts attaching the console to the floor pan Full Floor Console
Shift transfer case to four low position.
Engage parking brake.
Lift the console upward and rotate to remove through the passenger door.
INSTALLATION
Position and align the console in the vehicle.
Install the bolts attaching the console to the floor pan.
Install shift boot/indicator bezel.
Return seats to normal position.
Install the shift handle.
