Jeep Repair: 2003 Wrangler X exterior door handle replacement, haynes book, door latch

Question
I am trying to replace the door handles on my 03 Wrangler X with new ones, but can't get the old ones out/off. lol  I looked in the "Haynes" book, but it showed NOTHING. I have the interior panel off & the conector rod disconnected but I just can't figure out how to remove the 2 clips that are holding the tightening(racheting??) device that keeps the handles snug & flush with the door. I'm sure it is simple since the store I bought the new ones from list the job as "EASY", but I can't seem to figure this puzzle out.
