Jeep Repair: 1999 jeep cherokee, brake light switch, fuse block

Question
my taillights and side front marker lights are not working but my brake lights work and all other lights do. what do you think i should do first.

Answer
Hey Darren,

I would check the bulbs first, if the filaments are intact I would use an ohm meter or 12V test light to check the bulb sockets for voltage when the lights are on. Those mini bulb sockets on the front side marker lights are pretty famous for poor contact with the bulb. If both brake lights are out, I would start by checking the fuse block for a bad fuse, then the brake light switch for voltage out to the brake lights. If you've got 12V out of the switch then I'd check sockets for 12V to the bulbs when the pedal in depressed. If everything so far checks out, I would check the plug at the tail light wiring harness for corroded contacts, mud, water etc.

Hope this gets you going on finding the problem.
