Jeep Repair: Jeep Liberty 2003 starter removal, flange bolts, solenoid starter

Question
I have a 2003 Jeep Liberty that I am trying to replace the starter motor. I thought was going to be an easy job, however, I have run into a problem. I have disconnected the starter motor from the engine but I can not remove it from the engine area. It seems to be blocked it by the exhaust system. Can you please tell me if part of the exhaust system will need to be removed to be able to remove the starter from the engine area? (I guess I need a step by step procedure for the removal and installation of a starter motor for a Jeep Liberty 2003 (4.2 liter engine 4WD). Thank you.
