Jeep Repair: 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo - Power Outlet, snap ring pliers, jeep grand cherokee laredo

Question
I have both a cigarette lighter and a seperate power outlet in the center console of my Jeep. I am trying to replace the power outlet. I have removed the center bezel to expose the back of the power outlet and I have unplugged the wires.  I can not seem to remove the actual power outlet.  I don't see any clips, or snaps, and I can not unscrew it. How can I remove the power outlet out of that hole to replace it with the new one?

Answer

REMOVAL
Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
Remove the center lower bezel from the instrument panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Center Lower Bezel in Body for the procedure.
Pull the cigar lighter knob and element or the protective cap out of the cigar lighter receptacle base, or open the power outlet door in the instrument panel center lower bezel.
Look inside the cigar lighter or power outlet receptacle base and note the position of the rectangular retaining bosses of the mount that secures the receptacle base to the instrument panel center lower bezel (Power Outlet Remove/Install - Typical).
Insert a pair of external snap ring pliers into the cigar lighter or power outlet receptacle base and engage the tips of the pliers with the retaining bosses of the mount.
Squeeze the pliers to disengage the mount retaining bosses from the receptacle base and, using a gentle rocking motion, pull the pliers and the receptacle base out of the mount.
Remove the cigar lighter or power outlet mount from the instrument panel center lower bezel.
