Jeep Repair: 01 jeep cherokee a/c evaporator, jeep cherokee, labor time

I was told by a local mechanic that my a/c evaporator has a leak in it and he says it would be close to $1000 to replace it. Is that price reasonable and how hard is it to replace it myself?

That sounds reasonable. The price is high because the labor time shows 5 hours. They have to evacuate the a/c system and recharge it when the repair is finished. Your big costs involved will be refrigerant and labor time. But the price seems like a good one. Replacing it yourself will be next to impossible without the proper tools and equipment.
