Jeep Repair: jolting in 1st and 2nd gear, excessive movement, jgc

Question
Hi Nathan, I have a 2004 jgc, 4x4, 4.0 ltr, auto. When letting of the gas in 1st and 2nd gear, the car has a hard jolt that feels like the trans is going to brake off from the car. If it shifts while accelerating, it is a smooth transition.. the dealer says it's normal for these Jeeps, it don't feel normal, but it has always done it. Please help me.

Answer
Gosh you could have any number of problems.  My first thought would possibly be a transmission mount or engine mount broke.  When it shifts the transmission could be moving and hitting metal to metal with the rubber bushing broke.  You could also have a problem in the transmission its self.  Have someone brake torque the vehicle and watch the engine and transmission mounts for excessive movement, make sure the parking brake is set.  Check it in drive and reverse.  Hope you find the problem!
