Jeep Repair: Jeep Cherokee - Backup Lights, jeep cherokee, backup lights

Question
Backup lights don't work very often.  Is it a problem with the switch mechanism in the shifter?  Is it difficult to repair?  I don't want to spend much $$ on this 1991 JC ... though it has been a good auto.

Thanx ...

Answer
The problem could be one of many things from bad bulbs to a corroded ground wire, a bad switch on the side of your transmission (or on your shifter), a disconnected connection somewhere, a bad fuse, a cut wire, about anything.
If I were to guess and the switch is on the side of your transmission, it's dirty or disconnected.
