Land Rover Repair: Speedometer Problem

Question
Hi!

I would like to ask an assistance regarding my Land Rover Discovery 2000.
A month ago I noticed that my Speedometer is not working properly
sometimes its working and sometimes its not but for two weeks
now its totally dead because its not working at all, no reading in
speed and no reading in trip meter. I checked all the connections on the alternator, clean the terminals and even re-torque all bolts I tried to disconnect the
battery terminal hoping it will work but nothing happened.

Answer
The alternator does not have anything to do with the speedometer in a 2000 Discovery.  The speedometer in that car is driven by computers in the instrument cluster and engine control unit.  It's going to have to be checked by a specialist with dealer-level Land Rover test gear.  If you continue to drive as it is you are going to end up with a car whose odometer warning blinks forevermore to warn of an odometer discrepancy.  For that reason I encourage you to make an appointment and have the problem resolved soon.  I'm sorry that there is no home remedy for this issue
