Land Rover Repair: Land Rover defender 1985 fuel pump, land rover defender, workshop manual

Question
Hello John!

I bought this old landy about 3 months ago. I've been driving it regularly to go to work, and a week ago the engine died a few meters from destination. turns out the fuel pump wasn't kikcking in any ore (though it does after tapping slightly). I managed to drive it back home, dismanteled the fuel pump, and overhauled it as described in the workshop manual. replaced all the filters clean out the pump and reassembled it. It starts and seems to run properly  for a while and then quits again.Short of replacing the pump is there something else I should be looking at?
thanks

Regards

Answer
Well, I'd make sure the fuel pump is the only problem . . . but the pump is 25 years old, and filled with little moving parts that do wear out eventually.  Did you use compressed air to blow through the fuel supply lines to make sure the pickup screen in the fuel tank is not clogged?
