Land Rover Repair: 2003 Range Rover HSE Battery Drain, range rover hse, 2003 range rover hse

Question
Hello,
Where do I start? My battery light came on my dash a week ago and i had it checked and i was informed the alternator needed to be replaced. After replacing the alternator a week later the battery began to die on my way home from work and i was told my battery needed to be replaced as well. Battery replaced 1 day later and i noticed the car rpm was revving higher than normal while driving the car loses power and it smells like something is burning. i tried to give the car a boost and my cables got hot and began to melt it won't except the charge to the battery. No battery light on dash like the first time please help don't know what to do and tired of changing parts.

Answer
If you tried to jump the vehicle and the cables got hot and began to melt you did something seriously wrong.  Probably reverse polarity; maybe something else.  I have no idea if that caused additional damage or not.  Your 2003 Rover uses a data bus to tell the various devices to power down when the key goes off.  You need to find a shop that knows that system and has the tools to tell if the bus is awake or asleep and then look at the status of all the power consuming devices.  It's far more complex to check this generatio0n of Range Rover for battery drains and it requires special equipment.
