Land Rover Repair: conversion from air suspension to coils, air bag suspension, coil suspension

Question
Hello Nigel;

I am thinking of converting from a rear air bag suspension to a coil suspension on a 2001 Discovery II, sometimes when I come outside the truck is sitting all the way down, and sometimes it sits up for days, I dont know what the problem is, I like the air suspension feature, but I dont want to have a headache thinking of when will it go bad.  My question is, what are the benefits (if any ) of converting to a coil suspension vs air suspension? I do go off roading frequently and I want the best advise, and performance from my truck. Please let me know your thoughts. I really appreciate your expertise.

Answer
I would definitely recommend the spring conversion.  You will not notice any difference in the ride and it is cheaper to maintain.  If you go off-roading the air springs make no difference as the front is not lifted.  If this is the case, I would recommend coil springs in the front and rear to raise the vehicle all around.
