Land Rover Repair: 2?s, land rover specialist, emission control system

Question
Hey I have 3 questions
1. My "service engine soon" light is on & I've got the code & it said it was the gas cap. I took it to a British place that works on range rovers & they said the one I had on was not tight enought & wasn't the right one so I went to range rover & ordered one & the light is still on with the same code that it's the gas cap?? What is the problem?
2. This weekend we were out and the car was fine & the button were u lift or unload all 4 lights turned on while we were driving then the ride was REALY bumpy. We were on the freeway it felt like we were driving on rocks. Why did all the lights come on & why was the ride bumpy?
3. I purchased the car in may this year & it was from a Mercedes dealer so figured They took good care of the cars mantanice. My range is a 2000 it has 90,000 miles how much is the a full service check? And if I do all this will the check light come off?

Any advice would help!!! Thank you!!!

Answer
1) There is no such thing as a "gas cap code."  There are many codes for the evaporative emission control system, which manages the vapors from the gas tank.  Clearly the cap is part of that system but there is no gas cap specific code.  Your next step is to find a shop that has the skill to test and repair that system.  I'd have my doubts about the shop you went to simply because they blew you off with that answer.

2) The car rode badly because the air suspension failed.  At 9 years of age I'd suggest you convert to coil springs as the air suspension is problematic as it ages.  Cost to convert is about $15-1800.

3) The 90,000 mile service is about $1,000 at most dealers.  There is no reason to believe a Mercedes dealer would provide any service on a Range Rover, let alone taking good care of it.  You need a real Land Rover specialist for that.
