Land Rover Repair: oil change, causes of oil leaks, oil leakage

Question

Hey Nigel,

I have 2 questionS about my 2003 land rover disco...

When I change the oil is there anything special that I need to change other than the filter and oil..... Like a seal or something?

Why does my disco always seem to drip some oil... Should I pay mind to that?

Answer
These cars do best with 20/50 oil.  If you use a lighter weight it will rattle or bang.  When you change the oil, other than the oil and filter, there is a drain plug, which can be changed, but this is optional.

A certain amount of oil leakage is normal with these cars. If it is bothersome, you would have to take it to a repair shop to have it checked out.  There are many possible causes of oil leaks, including leaking valve cover gaskets.
