Land Rover Repair: Discovery Series II doesnt shift gears, discovery series ii, land rover discovery

Question
Hello.
I have bought a 2000 Land Rover Discovery Series II and unfortunately it is parked in my driveway and not shifting gears. It is an automatic vehicle and I have called the dealerships and they have told me that the brake switch is out. Is this correct? If it is true is there anyway I can get the gears to shift long enough to take it to the shop to be fixed. Thank you.

Answer
The stop lamp switch is under the dash directly above the brake pedel.  If it fails you cannot shift out of park.  You can unplug it and jump the connections with a paperclip to get the truck out of park but remember the brake lights are always on when jumped and never on when not, so it has to be fixed
