Land Rover Repair: radio and dash board lites, robert woodbury, repair expenses

Question
Hello John,
I have a 2002 Discovery with the 128,000 miles on it.  The problems I'm having are as follows:
1.  Radio just starts scanning with no way of stopping it unless I insert a cassette tape, then it stops for a short period-3-8 minutes.  Does not look as though any buttons are stuck.
2. Dashboard lite is out and fuses are good?
3. Clicking sound in engine almost sounds like if it was not getting oil.  All levels are fine?
4. When driving after 20 minutes, the complete dashboard lites go on as if I'm just starting the engine?  Once I pull over, stop and turn off and then on, it goes out?

Sorry for the long list but I've had such bad luck with this vehicle.  I'm over $4,500 out of pocket repair expenses on it.
Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.
Happy 4th!

Answer
It sounds like your radio has an internal failure.  There is a possibility that the scan button on the steeing wheel is stuck, though.  I'd disconnect that cable in the back of the rdio and see if it still scans.  If it does, you need a radio

The click could be many things - a lifter problem, a broken catalyst, or even lack of oil pressure.  I suggest having a Rover expert listen and render an opinion.

I can't really offer much on the other issues without seeing the truck.

Best of luck with it
