Land Rover Repair: Range Rover 2003 HSE, transmission shops, gearbox

Question
I've owned the car since new, it has 106000km on the clock and runs beautifully.  Recently the transmission started playing up by not going higher than 3rd gear.  This has now happened 3 times over the past 3 months.  It is remedied by stopping and switching the car off so I'm guessing it's an electonic fault.  Have you heard of this and is this something I should be worried about?

Answer
That sounds like a failure within the gearbox.  It's possible it's a control problem but more likely it is inside the transmission.  If you can find a shop with a T4 or Autologic system they may be able to pinpoint it; maybe not.  Those ZF boxes are tricky to work on and beyond the skill of most transmission shops. Here in the USA there are a few ZF authorized rebuilders.  If your truck were here I'd pull the transmission and send it to one of them for overhaul.  Hopefully ZF has a service network where you are too.  Removal and refit of the gearbox is pretty easy; it's just heavy work.

Best of luck with it
