Land Rover Repair: freelander 2004 warning lights/temp gauge, land rovers, warning lights

Question
hi, i have a 2004 freelander and last week my amber check engine light came on intermittintly, then my temp gauge went into the red zone for a few secs and came back to normal, then last friday the engine light went out and the red temp gauge light went on and the needle was all the way into the red zone and stayed there. any ideas?

Answer
Whenever I hear the temp gauge is pegged there is a good chance there is internal damage in the motor.  Whatever you do, don't drive like that, ever!!

There's an article on overheating on my website, www.robisonservice.com > service > rover > advice.

If the car is full of coolant the picture you paint points to a serous internal problem, for which you should find someone who really knows Land Rovers.  A generalist repair shop is likely to waste your money guessing.
