Land Rover Repair: oil light, mile warranty, oil light

Question
I purchased a 2003 Freelander 10 days ago. While on a trip, my oil light came on. I called dealer, checked the oil level which was fine. He told me it was probably a faulty light so it was OK to drive, but bring it in as soon as I got back for a check. By the time I got back home, it was makng very loud clicking and knocking noises. The dealer claims it was a faulty oil filter, and that there is a ball check system in the filter that was making noise, no the engine...does this sound right? He says I have no engine damage and my warranty is up in a few days (only 1000 mile warranty)

Answer
If I were you, I'd seek a second opinion from a letitimate, qualified Land Rover expert right away.  There is no valve in the filter to clog and make noise, and in any case, if anything is clogged in the oil system, you have a serious problem.

Good luck!
