Land Rover Repair: Land Rover, fear of failure, fuel gauge

Question
Hi John,
I recently bought a 2002 Freelander with 108000 km on the odometer without a service record. On the internet somewhere it was stated that the brushes on the fuel pump inside the tank only lasted about 100000 km and I am interested to know if I must get a spare one just in case of an emergency. Also the fuel gauge only registers till halfway when the tank is full.Have checked the sender unit which is OK.Thankyou for your site.

Answer
Most people would just drive the vehicle until the pump failed, and change it then.  However, the gauge reading halfway probably indicates a problem with the sending unit, wich is integrated with the pump.  So pump replacement might address your fear of failure as well as the gauge problem.
